Last 12 days – Oral History?!

In the vein of Oral history, here’s the unedited audio of my Oral History Summer school days.¹

¹This brief reflection does not do the time justice, but it’s barely been a day. People at the program deeply care and want to make an impact. 12 days of being around driven people like that change you. So many more books to read, documentaries to watch, project design worksheets to fill out, people to follow, ideas to tease out.

Showing Up is Strength

Last night my friend Felipe and I led an improv/acting class at The Covenant House. It’s a beautiful, compassionate and important place. They create community and safety for homeless youth in Los Angeles. At the end of the night, we all participated in a 4 minute writing exercise. The prompt was “What is strength”. Bradley, one of the youth, wrote this powerful flow of thoughts! Here’s to National poetry month. Here’s to the creative expression of our voice. Here’s to a brave choice to show up. Here’s to the generous offering of ourselves to unite the community.

This time leading up to the prayer tour, my time in London and my time after, I want to show up. I want to be honest and transparent with my fears and excitement, my hopes and doubts, my need and passions. Showing up truthfully is strong.
